Kata Beach

Kata Beach is a 1.5 km stretch of golden sand that is popular among tourists visiting Phuket. It is known for its beauty, amenities, and recreational activities. The beach is often busy but never overcrowded, making it a great spot for people of all ages.

During the north-east monsoon season from November to April, the sea is warm, crystal clear, and turquoise in color, with flat and calm waters that are perfect for swimming. However, the south-west monsoon season from May to October can bring rougher swimming conditions and larger waves that attract surfers. On days when red warning flags are flying, it is recommended to avoid entering the water due to dangerous rip tides and swells.

In December, Kata Bay is home to the King’s Cup Regatta, one of Asia’s premier sailing events, which sees beautiful yachts arrive from all over the region to compete.

Kata Beach is larger than its neighboring, Kata Noi Beach, and features Koh Pu (Pu Island) at its northern end. Half of the beach is bordered by a road, while the southern half has a few resorts that are directly on the beach. Club Med occupies a large area behind the beach road towards the northern end, which helps to keep that part of the beach relatively peaceful.

Due to its small size, Kata Beach has a cozy atmosphere that is well-suited for families. There are several shops, restaurants, and bars located around Kata Centre and between Kata Yai and Kata Noi. Overall, Kata Beach is a great compromise between the bustling pace of Patong and the more laid-back atmosphere of other beaches on Phuket.
